About Lucy
I am a medical student with experience tutoring high school pupils of varying abilities. I am a passionate scientist, who loves interacting with my students and helping them reach their potential, whilst they enjoy themselves along the way.
Having achieved all grade 8's and 9's in the new GCSEs, I believe that I have a unique approach to teaching the new syllabus. This is because I have actually experienced the challenges that the new specifications bring and I have been successful in overcoming them, and realising success. Through teaching high school students in extra classes, I have also gained the experience necessary to communicate critical concepts to students and aid them in achieving their potential in school.
In addition, I have volunteered at a social group for adults with disabilities such as Down syndrome and Schizophrenia for over 3 years, so I am confident in teaching people of all backgrounds, and I will take the time to find a learning style that is most suited to them.
I am a tutor who is confident in teaching students of all abilities- from those who are looking to pass their exams more comfortably, to those who will be looking to reach top grades. I will guide my students towards reaching their potential, with the help of my personal experience and passion for my subjects.

My previous experience of tutoring high school students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN), has helped me develop a patient approach, where I can explain difficult concepts by breaking them down into simpler chunks, which are easier for students to understand and remember in the long term.
I have also trained in conditions like dyscalculia and dyslexia, so I can appreciate the specific ways that pupils learn and adapt my teaching style accordingly.
For example, many dyscalculic pupils struggle with maths, so I use visual aids like grids and diagrams to help explain concepts, as they tended to learn more visually. I found that this was also more engaging for the students and they tended to recall the concepts easier.
I use a student-centred approach, where I take my time to work with the student and create lessons in a manner that suits their individual learning style. I will use these techniques along with advanced, evidence- based techniques such as Active Recall and Spaced Repetition to teach students the course.
