About Matthew
As stated, I have been teaching for 12 years around the D.C. area. I have taught a wide range of students, all of whom have brought something (often many things) to contribute to my classroom. I LOVE watching that light-bulb turn on after we analyze a piece of literature, and the text you thought was boring or too difficult is now a stepping-stone to greater things. We will read literature together, and I will ask you questions in a style you might not be used to, because it will really make you think not just about the characters or the plot of the story, but also how you might deal with similar circumstances or scenarios in your own life. I know many of us just HATE writing, and believe me, it was never my favorite growing up either. However, I teach writing in a way that you will always have something meaningful and impactful to say. That I promise you!

As a teacher for the past 12 years, I have consistently been able to raise students' reading and writing levels by 2 to 3 grade levels in a single year. I have several years of experience writing Curriculum and even wrote part of the Maryland state test, so I have a lot of practice teaching test prep. I regularly help my students with test prep throughout the year. I value analyzing literature not just for the sake of doing it, but to see the beauty of how authors intricately weave themes and various literary devices in order to create a more vivid and engaging experience for the reader. I also have a wealth of knowledge of how to implement analytical writing strategies during the entire reading process, not just at the beginning or end. I have never once had a student not pass the PSAT and have tutored many students for the SAT, amongst other things. Many of my students find me to be a very engaging teacher.
