About Sofia

I am a Physics tutor with over 4 years of experience and hold an MPhil in Physics. My teaching is rooted in a holistic and interdisciplinary approach, where science meets the beauty of art and cultural heritage. I believe physics is not just about formulae, but also about how the physical world shapes and preserves human creativity. A large part of my work focuses on the interaction of light with pigments, material analysis, and conservation science. I bring these ideas to life by connecting them with real examples from art and restoration practices. My lessons often explore how optical principles reveal hidden layers in paintings or how material properties determine the lifespan of sculptures. I also emphasise non-destructive testing principles, showing how science protects art without causing harm. Through case studies and art historical examples, I highlight how physics supports conservation and deepens our understanding of masterpieces. Over the years, I have worked with art history students, conservationists, and learners simply curious about the science of heritage. I adapt my teaching to their unique needs, whether it’s understanding spectroscopy, analysing surface properties, or exploring the chemistry-physics interface in conservation. My goal is to make physics a bridge between science and culture. With warmth and clarity, I help students see how physics can be applied to preserve and understand artistic treasures. Together, we uncover the hidden stories behind art and learn how science safeguards beauty for future generations.

My teaching approach in Physics is gentle, reflective, and focused on building confidence through practical enquiry. I believe science is best learnt by asking questions, testing ideas, and making sense of results. My lessons are designed to guide students step by step, turning curiosity into structured understanding. Alongside core physics concepts, I place strong emphasis on experimental design, data analysis, error propagation, and scientific reporting. These skills not only strengthen academic performance but also prepare students for real laboratory work. I encourage learners to approach experiments with creativity while staying grounded in scientific method. I use simple explanations, visual aids, and relatable examples to make even the most complex ideas accessible. By working through experiments together, students learn how to design investigations, evaluate uncertainties, and present results with clarity. I’m especially dedicated to supporting those who may feel unsure of their scientific abilities. With patience and encouragement, I help them discover their unique way of exploring physics. Every student has the potential to excel, and I adapt my teaching to match their pace and style. My goal is not only to teach Physics, but also to nurture independent thinkers who can approach experiments with curiosity and confidence. Together, we discover a new way to conduct experiments—one that is both enjoyable and empowering.
