About Karen
I love to learn and explain what I have learned and how to learn to others. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from George Mason University; a Master of Science in Geosciences with an emphasis in water chemistry and hydrogeology from Pennsylvania State University; and a J.D. and LL.M. in Intellectual Property from George Mason University School of Law. I have also studied Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Georgetown University, Geochemistry and Biogeochemistry at Colorado School of Mines, and Sociology and Environmental Science and Policy at George Mason University. In addition to academic studies, during my previous employment in the medical field, geological research, information technology, and the legal field, I have gained a broad knowledge base that I would like to share with students by tutoring.

My approach as a tutor is to first determine the student's state of knowledge in the subject, the learning resources available to them, and their end goal in being tutored. I then design a lesson plan to take the student from their current knowledge base in the subject to their desired goal. If the student is able to obtain additional resources, I may recommend some. My goal as a tutor is to ensure the student enthusiastically learns the subject matter. I do so by seeking to learn the student's main interests and relating the tutored subject to their lives.
