About Markas

As a composer and pianist, I hold a Bachelor's degree in music from Trinity Laban conservatoire, where I studied both composition and performance. With over 7 years of experience in teaching piano, I have successfully prepared young students for piano examinations (grades 1-5) and competitions. Additionally, I have participated in various piano competitions, including Around the Globe Piano Festival. As a composer, I have written a wide range of works for various ensembles, from solo instrumental pieces to orchestras. I am also an electronic music producer, with a keen interest in combining ensemble writing with electronics. My works often involve the use of microphones and effects, tape loops, and contact microphones. Furthermore, I am highly proficient in using music notation and production software, including Sibelius, Reason, Logic, and Ableton. This has enabled me to produce high-quality compositions and arrangements with ease.

About the lesson

My approach to piano lessons is to first identify the student's interests in music and art and use that information to create engaging and enjoyable lessons. I focus on using visual, auditory, and contextual elements to enhance the learning experience and deepen the student's understanding of music. Whether the student is preparing for piano examinations like ABRSM or seeking general piano lessons, I cover various areas including sight-reading, scales & arpeggios, performance techniques, and the context and history of pieces for better quality performance. I teach improvisation techniques and provide essential music theory knowledge that is essential for learning piano and music in general. To support the learning process, I prepare relevant resources and materials tailored to the student's needs, such as sight-reading exercises or music theory worksheets. My patient and friendly teaching style allows students to learn at their own pace, and my ultimate goal is to help them enjoy the full breadth of what music has to offer. My approach is personalised and flexible, and I work to adapt to each student's needs and interests to provide a truly enriching and rewarding experience.
