About Judy
Hi, I’m Yijuan! I have been living in New Zealand for 20 years and am a proud parent of two teenage boys who both love learning Chinese. In addition to my full-time role as a Senior Data Engineer, I am also a passionate part-time Chinese teacher. I strongly believe that language is more than just words—it’s a gateway to culture, history, and deeper connections. That’s why I take great pride in teaching my native, beautiful language in a way that is engaging, structured, and results-driven. My lessons are carefully tailored to each student’s unique needs, ensuring an enjoyable and effective learning experience. Outside of work and teaching, I have a one-year-old dog—adorable but quite the troublemaker at times! I look forward to helping you on your journey to mastering Chinese. I believe in a student-centered approach, where lessons are tailored to individual learning styles and needs. I also emphasize growth mindset principles, fostering resilience and curiosity in students. A typical lesson lasts 60 to 90 minutes, structured as follows: Warm-up & Review (10-15 min): Recap previous topics and assess understanding. Core Lesson (30-45 min): Introduce new concepts using interactive methods. Practice & Application (15-20 min): Reinforce learning through exercises, discussions, or problem-solving. Wrap-up & Q&A (5-10 min): Address any doubts and provide study strategies for independent learning. Lesson frequency is flexible, depending on the student’s goals and needs. I have a Master's degree in Finance achieved from Massey University in New Zealand. I have been teaching students (from primary to high school) Chinese for over 3 years (both in the classroom or virtual). Each lesson is customized to suit the student’s learning pace, academic goals, and personal interests.
