About Ian
Hello, my name is Ian, and I’m a native Chinese speaker who grew up in China and is currently studying at the University of Manchester. I have a strong interest in language education and enjoy helping students gain confidence in using Mandarin in real-life situations. I am fluent in English and have experience teaching learners from different cultural and educational backgrounds. This allows me to explain Mandarin clearly, anticipate common learning difficulties, and adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs. I approach teaching with patience, structure, and professionalism. My goal is not only to help students understand the language, but also to feel comfortable using it in practice. I aim to create a respectful, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students can progress at their own pace and feel encouraged throughout their learning journey. Who? I’m Ian, a native Chinese speaker who grew up in China and is currently studying at the University of Manchester. I’m fluent in English, have teaching experience, and offer a supportive, friendly learning environment. What? I teach Mandarin Chinese for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. Lessons are suitable for teenagers and adults, whether your goal is daily communication, academic study, or cultural understanding. How? Lessons are student-centred and practical, typically lasting 30-60 minutes. I focus on pronunciation, useful vocabulary, clear grammar explanation, and real-life conversation. MOST IMPORTANTLY, content is always adapted to your pace, goals, and interests!
