About Qianying

Hi, I'm Qianying — I'm from Hong Kong and grew up speaking Mandarin and Cantonese natively. I studied at university in Shanghai, and I'm currently at King's College London Business School.

My teaching background:

Tutored Mandarin speaking skills and coached secondary school students for oral exams — several students achieved top marks (1st place)
Taught interest-based Mandarin lessons to primary school children
Volunteer teacher in mainland China, running English enrichment lessons for primary/secondary students and reading classes for secondary students

I'm familiar with the GCSE Chinese syllabus, and I bring the same energy to Maths tutoring — adapting to whatever syllabus a student follows.

Whether it's a fun first step into Mandarin, focused exam prep, or Maths support, I'd love to help build real confidence, not just memorised answers.

Hi, I'm Qianying! Here's how I approach my lessons:

*My Techniques & Methodology

My lessons are lively and engaging, split into two main styles depending on the student's goals:

- Interest-based lessons
— designed to spark a genuine love for learning Chinese, especially for younger children. I start from everyday life and fun, relatable examples rather than textbook drilling, and mix in games, stories, and interactive activities to keep lessons dynamic. I have hands-on experience teaching interest-based lessons to primary school children.

- Exam-focused lessons
— built around exam requirements, with the goal of helping students score high with genuine confidence, not just memorisation. For oral exams specifically, I focus on mock interview practice and help students build their own personalised bank of high-scoring vocabulary and expressions — so they can respond flexibly and naturally, rather than reciting fixed answers.

Across both styles, I focus on:
- Speaking-first, communicative practice with pronunciation and tone correction
- Roleplay and mock conversations to build real confidence
- Vocabulary and expression-building tailored to the individual student, not one-size-fits-all scripts
- Cultural context woven in to make lessons more memorable

For Maths, I adapt to the student's syllabus, building core understanding first before reinforcing with practice questions and past papers.

*Typical Lesson Length
Flexible depending on age — I offer 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions, adjusted to what works best for each student.

*My Qualifications & Experience
I'm a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker, currently studying at King's College London Business School. I've taught interest-based Mandarin lessons to primary school children, and separately coached secondary school students for their oral exams — several of my students have gone on to achieve **top marks (1st place)** in their exams. I'm also familiar with the GCSE Chinese syllabus and exam format.
