My own teaching philosophy is always starting with 10-15 minutes of daily readings. The student immediately dives into the three main things on a new language: how the sentence is structured, idioms, vocabulary. Then, I simply stick to the scholarship program needed for the student. For elementary kids, I skipped newspaper readings. Instead, I use an easy and more fun methodology called "SNAP!": A card game where if you match you win the hand. It helps to develop memory and see differences in similar objects, an essential skill for learning to recognize letters, numbers, and pictures.
