About Michaela

I love teaching and learning, and I have devoted most of my life to those pursuits. (I earned my PhD recently, and let's be real, you don't get a PhD if you don't like school). I earned my bachelor's degree in music performance and biology at Vanderbilt University, and I went on to earn my PhD in Neuroscience from Northwestern University. Throughout my tenure at these institutions, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for over 10 classes, and taught independent courses as well. I also worked as a private tutor for years, focusing primarily on standardized test prep, but also teaching algebra, statistics, English, writing, and chemistry. I enjoy teaching all high school subjects and science/math/statistics/writing at the college level. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. In my spare time, I love reading, running, crocheting, and baking.

About the lesson

As your tutor, I individualize my lessons to your individual needs. My lessons focus around explaining concepts in terms that are accessible to you, and I make sure that you have opportunity to practice applying your knowledge during our sessions. I emphasize depth in our sessions, helping you learn the topic backwards and forwards so that you are very confident in your knowledge and abilities. My goal for you to feel confident about your ability to learn and to show your knowledge effectively (that is, to earn good grades). Your learning experience should be enjoyable and empowering. Helping you achieve your educational goals and potential is my priority.
