About Jack

I am a recently qualified secondary French teacher, having achieved my PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK, and I am passionate about helping young people develop both their ability and confidence in French.

As a French language specialist, I have trained specifically in teaching French within secondary education and have experience working with pupils across different year groups, abilities and learning needs. My teacher training has given me current knowledge of the UK secondary curriculum, effective language-teaching practice and the expectations students face as they progress towards GCSE.

I chose teaching because I genuinely enjoy helping young people make progress and seeing the moment when something that previously seemed difficult begins to make sense. Languages can sometimes feel overwhelming to students, particularly when they lose confidence with vocabulary, grammar or speaking, and I believe that the right individual support can make an enormous difference.

I am a patient, approachable and encouraging teacher, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and working at a pace that allows them to develop a secure understanding. At the same time, I maintain high expectations and encourage students to challenge themselves and recognise what they are capable of achieving.

My goal as a tutor is simple: to help each student become a more confident, independent and successful French learner. Whether they need help catching up, want to strengthen their schoolwork, are preparing for GCSE examinations or simply want to take their French further, I will provide professional and personalised support to help them make meaningful progress.

About the lesson

As a recently qualified French teacher with a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), I am passionate about helping young people become more confident, capable and successful in French. As a French language specialist, I offer engaging, supportive and carefully structured tuition tailored to each individual student.

My approach is based on the same evidence-informed teaching methods I use in the classroom. I break learning into manageable steps, clearly model new language and grammar, and use retrieval practice, questioning, guided practice and regular checks for understanding to ensure that students are genuinely making progress. Rather than simply giving students answers, I help them understand how French works so that they become increasingly confident and independent. Lessons develop the key skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing, translation, vocabulary and grammar, with activities adapted to the student's individual strengths and areas for development.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes and are planned around the individual student rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme. This might mean revisiting something they have found difficult at school, strengthening their grammar and vocabulary, improving pronunciation and speaking confidence, supporting current schoolwork, or working specifically towards GCSE examinations. I aim for lessons to be purposeful and challenging while maintaining a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

I have recently completed my PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages (French) with QTS in the UK, giving me current classroom experience and an up-to-date understanding of secondary French teaching, curriculum expectations, assessment and effective teaching practice. My specialist language is French, and my teacher training has given me experience planning and delivering lessons for students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.

I offer tuition primarily for secondary-school students from KS3 through to GCSE, whether your child is struggling with French, wants to improve their confidence and grades, needs additional support alongside school, or is aiming for the highest possible GCSE outcome. Lessons can also be tailored towards particular priorities such as GCSE speaking preparation, writing, translation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation or exam technique.

Most importantly, I want students to leave my lessons feeling that French is something they can do. My aim is not only to help students achieve stronger academic outcomes, but also to develop the confidence, knowledge and independence that will allow them to succeed in the language for themselves.
