About Renuka

Hello! I am Renuka, an experienced math tutor with a Masters in Data Science and a Bachelors in Computer Science Engineering with first class honours results.

I specialise in supporting students who feel nervous about Maths. I believe every student can shine — confidence is the key. I focus on simplifying concepts and building confidence, and many students tell me they feel more positive, motivated, and capable from the very first session.

My interest in teaching began when I started out tutoring my 16 year old brother and while doing that I developed simple but effective ways, to clarify concepts, boost students confidence and help them to succeed in their studies.

My Teaching Style -

• Focus on building confidence along with strong subject knowledge.

• Fun, engaging, and stress-free learning sessions.

• Step-by-step explanation of questions and solutions with plenty of practice.

• Personalised study plans that help students perform well in exams by identifying their strengths and focusing smartly on areas that need improvement — helping them feel confident, not just hardworking.

Lets Connect!

*If you or your child would like a supportive, enjoyable, and effective learning experience while achieving great results. I would be happy to create a personalised plan tailored based on the needs*

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in tutoring began at home, when I started helping my younger brother with his studies. Over time, I saw how his confidence grew and how his fear of maths slowly disappeared. That experience made me realise how much I enjoy teaching and encouraging students, and it motivated me to reach out to help others as well.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I mainly teach Mathematics and Computer Science. I especially enjoy topics like algebra, geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic, probability, and statistics because they form the foundation for so many other areas. I prefer discussions that involve reasoning and problem-solving rather than rote memorisation, as I believe real understanding comes from connecting concepts, not just remembering formulas.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, two teachers had a strong influence on me. My high school maths teacher showed me how patience and encouragement can turn even the most difficult subject into something approachable. Later, during my engineering studies, one of my professors inspired me with his clarity and dedication. Their teaching styles shaped the way I now approach my own students.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

For me, a good tutor is someone who is patient, empathetic, and flexible. It’s not enough to just explain concepts; a tutor should listen carefully, adapt their approach, and build confidence in the student. Most importantly, a tutor should be able to support every learner — from those who are naturally strong to those who struggle — so no one feels left behind.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember a classmate in school who always struggled with quadratic equations. One day, instead of using formulas, I explained the concept with a simple chocolate-sharing example. It clicked for her instantly, and soon she was solving problems on her own — and even helping others. That moment showed me how powerful it is to make learning relatable.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

When I first started learning advanced mathematics, I found the abstract theories quite overwhelming. I overcame this challenge by breaking problems into smaller, more manageable steps. That method made things clearer for me, and it’s a technique I now share with my students to make even complex topics less intimidating.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My greatest passion is teaching with the goal of building confidence. I’ve seen many students who actually know the material but doubt themselves. Helping them discover their own ability, and watching that confidence carry over into other areas of life, is what motivates me the most.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I believe what sets me apart is my ability to connect with students on a personal level. I focus on creating a learning environment that feels safe, stress-free, and even enjoyable. My aim is to turn “I can’t” into “I can” — because once a student believes in themselves, everything else follows.
