About George
I graduated from the University of Bath with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, achieving First-Class grades in every semester of my degree. I later completed an MSc in Mathematical and Computational Finance at the University of Oxford and obtained a teaching qualification in Pedagogical Studies from the University of Cyprus.
I have experience teaching Mathematics and Statistics across a wide range of levels, from Middle School and High School to GCSE, A-Level and university. My teaching experience includes public and international schools in Cyprus and Switzerland, as well as teaching at university level. Working with students of different ages, abilities and educational backgrounds has helped me develop a flexible approach to teaching and communication.
My professional journey has not been limited to education. I have also worked in the financial sector in London, including as a derivatives trader and in market risk. This experience allowed me to use mathematics, statistics and analytical thinking outside the classroom and gave me a broader perspective on their real-world applications.
My passion for mathematics and education also led me to create MathTales, an educational channel on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook where I create mathematical explanations, problems, puzzles and challenges.
Outside mathematics, I have a strong passion for sport, mountaineering and adventure. Over the past two years, I have reached the summits of Mont Blanc and Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe. I am also the founder of **Mountain Expeditions Cyprus**, which began as a community bringing people together through mountain adventures and has since developed into a company organising expeditions and outdoor experiences in Cyprus and abroad. Mountaineering is an important part of my life and has taught me the value of preparation, perseverance, teamwork and setting ambitious goals.

“Mathematics is a game played according to certain simple rules with meaningless marks on paper.” — David Hilbert
This quote by the famous mathematician David Hilbert reflects the way I have always seen mathematics. A game of logic, patterns, challenges and problem-solving. And just like any game, you become better at it by understanding the rules, practising, experimenting and, most importantly, enjoying the process.
This idea is at the centre of my teaching philosophy. I believe that a student who enjoys a mathematics lesson is much more likely to become curious, ask questions and genuinely try to understand the subject. When that happens, mathematics stops being something they simply have to study for an exam and becomes something they can actually enjoy solving. With greater understanding comes confidence, and with confidence usually comes better performance.
Every student is different, so I adapt my lessons to the individual student’s needs, level, goals and way of learning. There are many ways to explain the same mathematical idea and many different teaching tools that can be used. Finding the approach that makes a concept “click” for a particular student is an important part of teaching.
My lessons are highly interactive. I don't want students simply watching me solve questions while taking notes. I encourage them to ask questions, discuss their thinking and participate throughout the lesson. Most importantly, I want them to solve problems themselves during every lesson. This allows me to see whether they have truly understood the concept and gives us the opportunity to identify and correct difficulties immediately.
Depending on the student's goals, lessons can focus on understanding new concepts, strengthening weak areas, practising problem-solving, completing exam-style questions or preparing specifically for examinations.
I teach Mathematics and Statistics across a wide range of levels, from Middle School and High School to GCSE, A-Level and university level.
Ultimately, I want students to leave a lesson not only knowing how to solve a particular question, but understanding why the method works and feeling confident enough to tackle the next problem themselves.
