About Cole

I am an undergraduate student majoring in math and computer science at Lewis and Clark. With a deep passion for mathematics and computer science, I dedicate my free time to assisting peers both within and outside our university's tutoring center. This experience has not only honed my ability to explain complex concepts but also reinforced my commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment. Immersing myself in the math department, I actively observe and learn from esteemed professors, paying close attention to their epistemological methodologies. This practice has enriched my understanding of effective teaching strategies and has inspired me to continually refine my approach to tutoring.

About the lesson

As an undergraduate double major in Mathematics and Computer Science, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Drawing from my experience at the college tutoring center, I have honed an adaptive teaching style that prioritizes student needs and promotes active participation. I tend to open my lessons with a brief review of adjacent topics, as a way to build students' confidence. This is followed by a brief topic introduction and an extensive collaborative exploration. We then conclude with student reflection, allowing me to elucidate on confusion, and plan ways to foster curiosity. I believe that engagement is the key to effective learning. By creating a flexible and supportive classroom environment, I aim to empower students to take ownership of their learning journey.
