About Arpita

Language is one of the core faculties that make us human, and I take great pride in studying it. Be it the variation you see in sounds or sentence structures, or the relationship between words and their meanings, all elements of language present an opportunity to learn what it is to be human. On the other hand, using language in the best way possible for specific purposes - for instance, in a thesis or dissertation - is vital to establish oneself as a consummate researcher and writer. I believe that words carry valence, and my intent is to ensure that my students understand this as they make their word choices. I am multilingual - I speak English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Marathi fluently, and I have also learnt to speak very basic Welsh.

About the lesson

A hands-on approach towards understanding the nuances of linguistic phenomena. In this context, you shall be placed in an hour-long interactive environment - whether with myself or other students - and you shall use real-life, practical examples to aid your understanding. I teach Phonetics from a linguist's point of view, and once you have grasped the basics you can learn just about any language in spoken form. Classes focused on thesis and dissertation writing shall be one-on-one and 2 hours each, with a focus on your particular style of writing, moulded into an academic format. I have taught Linguistics at University level - both undergraduate and postgraduate, and I am currently near the end of my PhD in Linguistics. My classes would be best suited for University students who have taken up Linguistics or a related subject, or those intending to write a Humanities-based dissertation or thesis.
