About Nicole
I am a seasoned educator with 7+ years of experience teaching writing and literature courses at the college level; and 10+ years of experience working as an academic/dissertation editor. I also enjoy working with high school students, whether they intend to go to college or not, because writing and reading skills are essential for success in any future career! At the core of my teaching is a strong desire to help students succeed and grow as writers and communicators. Whether you hate writing/reading, it fills you with anxiety, or you want to take your writing/reading to a higher level, I will cheer you on and help you grow the skills necessary to help you overcome any challenges.

I have a background in teaching college/university and high school students in both writing (essays, research) and reading and interpreting literature. I have also worked with ESL learners and am bilingual in Spanish. I cater each lesson to the individual needs of a student. For example, if a student wants to work on improving their grammar and writing to better align with academic voice, we would spend a session learning the differences between passive voice vs. active voice. I would (1) start by explaining the differences between these two types of voice and their associated verbs, (2) then I would provide examples from academic writing sources for us to look at and discuss, (3) next we would look for the use of each (passive & active) in a student's own writing, and (4) we would revise those examples to all be in active voice. What sets me apart? I have 10+ years of experience working as an academic editor and helping writers get published. Therefore, I have an advanced command of the English language and can break down complicated English grammar concepts to make them easy and enjoyable to learn!
