About Japhet
I'm Japhet, a senior technology and cyber security professional based in Kent, and a passionate educator. I hold a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Leeds, an Executive MBA with Distinction, and I'm currently completing a PGCE in Computing as a route into the classroom alongside my consulting work.
My academic background sits at the intersection of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering, and my professional career has been spent applying that training in real industrial settings: defence, financial services, logistics, and government. That mix is what shapes how I teach. I've used the topics on these specifications to solve actual problems, so I can show students why a subject matters beyond the exam paper, and I can answer the "when will I ever use this?" question with specifics rather than slogans.
I teach because the right tutor at the right time changes a student's trajectory. I've seen it in my own life and in the lives of the people I've mentored at work and in voluntary settings. A young person who understands their subject deeply, rather than just memorising it for an exam, walks into university or their first job with options most of their peers do not have. That's the lift I want to give every student I work with.
I tutor calmly and patiently. I assume my students are capable, treat their questions seriously, and never make anyone feel stupid for not knowing something yet. Outside of teaching and consulting, I read widely across history and science, and I'm slowly working my way through a list of long-distance walking routes across the Kent and Sussex coast.

My lessons are structured, exam-focused, and tailored to where you actually are rather than where the textbook assumes you should be. Every new student starts with a free fifteen-minute call so we can agree your goals, the exam board you sit, and your current strengths and gaps.
Sessions are typically sixty minutes for GCSE and A-Level, and ninety minutes for university-level Chemical Engineering, Further Maths, and adult learners preparing for technical certifications. We can run weekly, twice-weekly during exam season, or as one-off troubleshooting sessions before mocks and finals.
The methodology is the same across every subject I tutor: diagnose first, build fluency through worked examples, then practise under timed conditions. We start with a short diagnostic on the topics most likely to be costing you marks. From there, each session combines three things: a teaching block on the target topic, guided worked examples where you work alongside me rather than watching, and timed past-paper practice with detailed feedback on method as well as final answer. Between sessions I send concise notes and three or four follow-up problems calibrated to your level.
I tutor GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate, master's, and adult learners. I cover Maths, Further Maths, Computing and Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and the sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Combined Science). I work across all major UK exam boards: AQA, OCR, OCR MEI, Edexcel, and WJEC. Sessions run online across the UK or in person around Kent.
My qualifications: PhD from the University of Leeds in Chemical and Process Engineering, Executive MBA with Distinction, and a PGCE in Computing currently in progress. Alongside teaching, I work as a senior consultant in cyber security and technology, which means I can show every student why these subjects matter beyond the exam paper.
