About Benjamin
I have recently graduated from the University of Warwick with a 1st in physics and I am looking to apply the skills that I have learned in my education to help others achieve their academic goals. As a tutor, I want to inspire the next generation by passing on my passion for physics, maths and chemistry.

I am a recent physics graduate (obtained a 1st from the University of Warwick) with a passion for maths, physics and chemistry. I believe that, with enough work, anyone can excel in these subjects! I have have recent experience with mentoring first year undergraduate physics students on pastoral and academic issues, ensuring that they have the best possible start to their time at university.
In my tutoring sessions I like to stick to a past-present-future structure, which typically last for an hour. Thinking about the past in the beginning gives continuity from one tutoring session to another and helps me to learn what kind of help the student might need. Then, for the bulk of the tutoring session, I address the immediate needs of the student by reviewing what they have learned recently and working through problems. Finally, focussing on the future at the end of a tutoring session helps the student to see that tutoring is a process in which the tutor is a guide (not a fix) and gives direction to the tutee as we part ways.
I like to think that my teaching style takes into account how I like to learn. I believe that the best way to learn something is to do it yourself, so I use lots of problems and examples to build problem-solving skills. I also like to help students assess their own strengths and weaknesses, so that my students can be confident in what they do know and can build upon what they don't. One of my goals as a tutor is to help students to understand how interesting the content that they learn at school really is, as well as to help students to become successful independent workers.
