About Ava
I am a fourth-year physics undergraduate student at a reputable university in the United States. In addition to my main coursework, I am also pursuing a minor in mathematics as well as a minor in machine learning (with the computer science department). I work on campus as a consultant for the English department in their Writing Center. I have been tutoring middle and high school students since my senior year in high school. It's very rewarding to be able to discuss and break down concepts and see things click in someone else's mind as they once did for you. As in every other area of my life, I like to stay positive in my lessons, as this is the narrative you will carry with you through every experience you have in school. Not only will you learn your subject, you'll also learn good habits.

I believe a tutor is more than just homework assistance. To be successful, repetition is necessary, and failure is expected. Luckily, every great academic has experienced failure at some point in their career, and I intend to use those learning experiences to take a positive step forward.
The first lesson is more of an assessment of the student's level of understanding of the topic. Can you complete these homework problems with minimal help? Is there a disconnect between the material you're learning now and the foundational skills (in math, say) you've achieved? That is the intent of the first lesson. From there, I will devise a lesson plan on concepts to practice these skills through practice problems, games, and exam/essay prep.
Most of my experience is in tutoring mathematics and English at the middle school and high school levels. My lesson plans will require a little bit of self-discipline, so perhaps suitable for an eager-to-learn elementary schooler too.
Learning should be fun! I aim to steer my students back into the curiosity mindset when it comes to the subjects they struggle with. Once you have a few rewarding experiences, it changes your entire outlook on things.
