About Viviane

Olá! My name is Viviane Almeida, and I’m a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with a passion for helping others learn with joy and confidence. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work, and my background gives me a unique understanding of people, culture, and the power of language to connect and transform lives. As someone who returned to school after 25 years and earned my degrees with honors — all in my second language — I know what it feels like to learn something new, step by step. That’s why my teaching is grounded in empathy, encouragement, and a belief that everyone can succeed with the right support. I bring professionalism, patience, and positive energy to every lesson. Whether you’re learning Portuguese for travel, work, family, or personal growth, I’ll meet you where you are and walk with you at your pace. I create a safe, respectful space for learning — where mistakes are part of the journey and your goals are always in focus. When you learn with me, you’re not just learning vocabulary or grammar —you’re gaining a guide, a cheerleader, and someone who truly believes in your potential.

My Teaching Approach: Portuguese with Purpose, Passion, and Personalization
As a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with a Master’s in Social Work, I bring a deep understanding of language, culture, and people into every lesson. My approach is human-centered, playful, and adaptive — rooted in real communication and cultural connections.

Teaching Method & Techniques
I use a communicative and immersive approach, combining:
- Conversational practice from Day One
- Real-life scenarios and cultural context (music, media, idioms, expressions)
- Grammar in context, not in isolation
- Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic techniques to fit your learning style
- Gentle correction and confidence-building feedback
- Custom language games, storytelling, and role-play to make learning fun and meaningful
- Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate speaker, I focus on developing fluency, not just memorizing rules.

A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session (60 minutes) is personalized but may include:
1) Warm-up (5–10 mins) – Light conversation or review using a game or short dialogue
2) Main topic (20–30 mins) – Vocabulary + grammar lesson in real-life context
3) Practice activity (15–20 mins) – Speaking, listening, or writing exercise with feedback
4) Wrap-up (5 mins)—Review key points and mini-assignment for next time

* Depending on your comfort level, I can teach lessons in Portuguese only or in Portuguese with English explanations.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
- Empathy & Cultural Sensitivity: As an immigrant and social worker, I deeply understand diverse learning needs.
- Academic & Professional Support: I can tailor lessons for students in academia, law, social work, or immigration contexts.
- Life Experience: I didn’t just grow up speaking Portuguese—I’ve taught, translated, and lived the immigrant journey.
- Patience & Encouragement: My mission is to help you believe in yourself while you grow.

Who Are My Lessons For?
My lessons are for anyone who wants to learn Portuguese, including:
- Children, teens, and adults of all ages
- Complete beginners who want to start from scratch
- Intermediate learners who want to improve fluency and confidence
- Heritage learners reconnecting with Brazilian roots
- Travelers, immigrants, or anyone planning to live, work, or volunteer in Portuguese-speaking countries
- Professionals needing Portuguese for social work, law, education, or other fields
- Students needing academic language support (essays, presentations, reading comprehension)
- Families or small groups who want to learn together in a relaxed, fun way

* I tailor every lesson to the age, learning style, and goals of the student — from playful activities for kids to in-depth conversations for adults.
