About Rutu
Rutu is a reserved musician, but surprisingly an exceptional mentor based in Mumbai. Shying away from the spotlight, he endeavours to nurture the musical talents of young prodigies and singers across the globe. He inherited his initial training from his grandmother, and then pursued lessons under the guru shishya tradition from a dedicated and devout musician, the late Pandit Vinayak Vora.
From 2009, Rutu began receiving guidance from the legendary Sarangi virtuoso Pandit Ram Narayan, who imparted to Rutu his priceless experience of accompanying and performing with almost all the eminent Hindustani vocalists of the 20th century.
Panditji's musical Sanskar reflect in Rutu's Gayaki, along with the Kirana style Alapi, where he aims to elaborate Raag systematically while preserving the purity and emotion of the Raag and its composition, as well as retaining the rawness, authenticity, simplicity and minimalism in his rendition.
Rutu also holds a few qualifications in the form of degrees, such as Sangeet Visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Masters in Ancient Indian Culture from St Xavier's College, Mumbai. However, he believes that these degrees do not actually work when it comes to tuning the tanpura each time and establishing the Shadj to its divinity.

My teaching approach is to assess the student’s level and assist the student to advance towards the higher stage. It involves strengthening the basics, introducing the best examples by master musicians to spark inspiration. Gradually empowering the student to develop musicianship as an independent practitioner and performer.
