About Lauren

I'm a former middle school math teacher with 10+ years experience tutoring one-on-one, as well as managing a math learning center. I am highly qualified to work with students in grades 1-12, as well as some college courses and adult learning programs.

I come to each session prepared with hands-on materials and a plethora of strategies for understanding numbers and operations. One of my favorite things to hear is "I used your strategy at school"!

You will find my personality to be warm and friendly - I am often described as being patient, approachable, and kind. I will be your child's cheerleader and will get to know them, and care for them, on a personal level.

About the lesson

Whether your student needs help with basic arithmetic or complex high school math topics - I am here to help!

In math, true understanding is key! I will address the root of the problem, rather than use a band aid such as memorization tricks for a process.

When working with a new student, I typically start with a quick verbal assessment to determine if there are gaps preventing mastery of current classwork. For example, quick recall of basic addition/multiplication facts, or misconceptions about using positive and negative numbers. Each student has their own learning style and prior understanding that needs to be considered.

After I get to know your student, we will work together to determine the best way to support them. For most students, we spend a portion, if not all, of our session time on homework. I love to utilize games as a way to warm up and engage with your student, while practicing mental math and number fluency.

My primary focus for all students is improving their confidence, specifically in math, but also simply in their ability to learn. I will work hard to foster a positive relationship with them and boost their self esteem with each tutoring session!

Lauren is amazing and has gone above and beyond her duties as a tutor! She has been such an advocate for my daughter and truly one of the (if not the only) educators to be able to explain math in a way she understands.
