About Aaliyah

I am a current college student majoring in Pre-Veterinary Sciences at Louisiana State University. For the past 3 years, I have been working with kids from afterschool programs and summer camps. These experiences have allowed me to better understand children as individuals, seeing each of their likes and dislikes, what they struggle with and what strategies work to improve it. I grew up with ADHD so I understand when learning can be hard, it took me years to finally find strategies that helped me improve my own learning, I hope that is now what I can help others achieve. I graduated high school with a 4.1 GPA and I excelled in Science and English, being a part of various rigorous programs that set me farther ahead than most. I hope to use my experience, patience, and knowledge to do my best to help other students.

About the lesson

My teaching method reflects what I have seen work best when teaching kids, the key is engagement. Most kids struggle with certain subjects because they are foreign concepts so my strategy is teaching them in a way that keeps them engaged whether it be storytelling, metaphors to their own interests, hands-on examples, visual aid, etc. I will need to assess a child's needs and learning style to create a lesson plan, specified for their needs. What sets me apart is I have worked with kids of all ages ranging from 5-17, adapting to their energy levels, likes and dislikes, concentration and ability to understand and comprehend. I have even worked with children who struggle with ADHD and autism as I too suffered with ADHD growing up. This allowed me to know the ins and outs of teaching someone with a similar brain process. I mainly teach life and environmental sciences for kids pre-kindergarten to high school, however, I also can teach many subjects in math and English. I excel in speech classes such as public speaking, argumentation and debate, and just overall teaching kids how to become better speakers, from adjusting their tone to the way they articulate. I sincerely hope I can help in whatever areas I can!
