About Jenna

I’m a former visual arts major from Denver School of the Arts with multiple award-winning pieces. I love creating artwork of all media, experimenting with new things, and helping others grow and feel confident with their artistic skills. I definitely specialize in colored pencil work, as well with paintings, though I have experimented with digital art, to linocuts, all the way to sculpture. I keep things relaxed, but still in a professional manner. I will always provide visuals, and encouragement, and I enjoy making art feel approachable while still helping students build confidence and find their own creative style.

My goal as a tutor is to focus on creating an engaging, and supportive learning environment where all students feel confident in exploring their ideas and developing their skills. My overall approach is student-centered, adaptable for all, and heavily rooted in both creativity and critical thinking.

I heavily encourage hands-on work with visuals and a discussion-based teaching style. Each lesson is tailored to each student’s learning style, with a larger emphasis on breaking complex ideas into manageable and easy steps. I frequently use visual examples, demonstrations, sketches, and real-world references to help better reinforce understanding of each individual student. Constructive criticism is a key part of my process, helping students recognize both their strengths and suggest areas for growth.

A typical lesson will often begin with a brief check-in to understand the student’s goals for the session. Going forward, I will introduce or review concepts using visual references or examples at the student’s own pace. The main concept of the lesson involves guided practice, where students apply what they’ve learned while receiving feedback in real time. Each session will end with reflection, suggestions for improvement, and optional practice ideas to help engage the student outside of the session.

What sets me apart from others in this category is my age and experience. As a 15-year-old I am better able to connect with my students on a level that does not feel so intimidating. I am also able to understand each and every individual on a level that cannot be seen from an adult's point of view. Although my younger age, I have a strong foundation in visual arts and in creative thinking. I am a former visual arts major from Denver School of the Arts, and I have created multiple award-winning pieces through the Scholastics Art & Writing Awards, which gives me both technical skill and firsthand experience with navigating high artistic expectations. I have a deep understanding on how to balance both creativity with structure, and I strive to inspire confidence, originality, and discipline in my future students.

My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students, but are open to anyone, beginner to intermediate, who has an interest in their art. I also work well with students that are preparing for arts-focused schools, classes, or competitions, as well as those who want to strengthen their foundational skills or explore creative expression in a supportive setting.
