About Alastair

I qualified with a PGCE in art and Design in 2016 and have worked in 3 top performing Art Departments in schools around the Bristol and Bath area. Before this I have worked as a tutor privately and TA in schools for over a year.
In each school I have taught over 600 students a year and this year leading 2 GCSE classes and 2 A Level classes (Including Photography and Art courses). Students have attained 100% pass rate, with over 70% in A Level Art gaining A/A* and in GCSE Art 18 out of 32 gaining grades 7-9, 12 grade 6 and 2 grade 5. I have been second in the department for the past two years and worked as head of department for a short interim.

About the lesson

As Art is about personal freedom of expression, whether you wish to prepare for exams, the next step after school or wish to produce artwork that is for fun, I will tailor the programme to your individual needs. This can include how to plan an idea up to how to present a final idea and in particular when planning for exams will involve personalised consultations that take you extensively through a programme.

One of the biggest problems students may struggle with is how to make the next decision, to be decisive and take creative risks, I have a wide selection of planned lessons for how to engage with your own ideas, often using visual learning exercises such as demonstrations, video, formative feedback and evaluative skill building tasks using a wide range of collected previous examples to help build understanding of exam criteria.

Art remains a heavily practical subject and I offer a wide range of lessons in how to apply and use materials by using the necessary building blocks and breaking down tasks into appropriate chunks to make a complex image achievable for all abilities.

I always give honest and fair critique, understanding that Art is personal and outside of education subjective, however with a strong knowledge of the Exam process able to get the best out of all students wishing to excel. Compromise from both the teacher and student is ideal to get passionate results.

Details

An introductory consultation to consider suitability will be £5 per 30 mins.
For additional students the cost will be £10 per student including the first.
If you recommend me to any other students and they book min. 2 lessons then you will receive 1 lesson free.
Travel is £5 for the first 10KM travelled and £0.25 per each additional KM.
Cancellation is free up to 3 hours before a lesson and after a fee of £5 is to be required. If I am not informed of a cancellation and have travelled or are travelling to the destination then all travel costs must be paid in full.
