About Lori
***ALSO OFFERING GROUP INSTRUCTION***
I’m a professional fine artist with formal training, real-world experience, and a deep respect for the learning process.
I’m a graduate of Savannah College of Art & Design, with a background in fine art, photography, and design. Over the years, my creative work has included professional photography, publishing, design, and gallery-based fine art.
Today, I paint full-time and share my work through exhibitions, commissions, and teaching.
While my path has been varied, one thing has remained constant: a commitment to craftsmanship, thoughtful process, and excellence in what I create—and what I teach.
For 13 years, I was a homeschool mom, which deeply shaped how I approach instruction. That season taught me how to communicate clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and create an environment where students feel both supported and challenged. I bring that same attentiveness and professionalism into every lesson.
Students can expect me to be:
* Prepared and organized
* Clear and intentional in instruction
* Respectful of their time, goals, and learning pace
* Encouraging without lowering standards
I take teaching seriously. Each lesson is thoughtfully planned, personalized, and guided by both experience and care. My goal is not simply to help students complete a painting—but to help them understand why techniques work, build confidence in their abilities, and grow steadily over time.
Whether you’re brand new to painting or returning after a long break, you’ll be met with professionalism, patience, and genuine investment in your progress.

Every student begins in a different place, so the first and most important step in my teaching process is assessment. Before we dive into techniques or projects, I take time to understand where the student is starting—skill level, comfort with materials, learning style, and personal goals.
This allows me to tailor instruction rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
I teach watercolor and acrylic painting with a focus on:
* Brush handling and paint control
* Color mixing and understanding color relationships
* Layering, transparency, and texture
* Composition and visual flow
Techniques are demonstrated clearly, then practiced together with guided support and individualized feedback.
While every lesson is customized, most sessions follow a thoughtful rhythm:
Initial Assessment & Conversation
We discuss experience level, interests, and goals. For new students, this may include a simple painting exercise to observe technique and comfort level.
Targeted Instruction
Based on the assessment, I introduce techniques that best support the student’s next step—whether foundational skills or refinement.
Guided Painting Time
Students paint alongside me with step-by-step guidance, questions encouraged throughout.
Feedback & Refinement
I offer specific, supportive feedback to help students grow without overwhelm.
Wrap-up & Direction
We review progress and set a clear focus for the next lesson.
What Sets Me Apart
I don’t assume where a student should be—I meet them where they are.
As a professional artist and former homeschool mom of 13 years, I bring both technical training and a deep understanding of how people learn best. My approach is patient, adaptable, and grounded in encouragement rather than pressure.
Students often share that they feel:
* More confident
* Less afraid of making mistakes
* Clear on what to work on next
* My goal is steady progress, creative confidence, and genuine enjoyment of the process.
Who My Lessons Are For:
* Beginners with no prior experience
* Intermediate painters wanting to strengthen fundamentals
* Homeschool students seeking personalized art instruction
* Teens and adults returning to art after time away
* I also offer GROUP INSTRUCTION. (Please message for details.)
Lessons are always adjusted to the student’s starting point, pace, and goals.
If you’re unsure where to begin, that’s exactly where we start—together.
