About Román

I have 5 years of experience as an English teacher to children and adults of all ages and 20 years of experience playing drums.

In those 20 years of experience, I have studied many methods, which has led me to understand the instrument from a very pedagogical point of view. And my years as an English teacher have taught me a lot about the teacher-student relationship in a private class. There are three things I see as essential in teaching: knowing the subject, knowing how to communicate that knowledge and connecting with the student.

About the lesson

There are few other experiences in the lives of young people that reliably provides the combination of challenge and intrinsic motivation that learning to play an instrument does.

For children, teenagers and young adults, learning an extracurricular activity – such as drumming – has the great advantage of teaching them the value of hard long-term practice while giving them a purpose that they are enthusiastic about.

My job as a teacher is to be supportive and demanding, and provide the students with the tools they need to focus on small challenges, learn how to master them and move on to the next one.

I started playing the drums when I was 16 years old and had the great fortune of moving to the USA a year later and being placed in a high school that had a fantastic music program lead by an amazing music director. That's where I was taught about the discipline required to master a musical instrument, and that is what I teach my students.
