About Richie
I've been playing drums in bands since I was 13 and teaching complete beginners from the age of 15. It is 15 years later now and I've had countless students that came to my home and I went to theres both in Ireland and on my travels in Australia, England and Italy. Through inherent empathy and patience, I've brought all of my students from zero theory to at least Grade 3 music theory through fun, personalised, versatile, engaging and rewarding exercises and routines. From work on basic technique and positioning to free-style jamming, the central aspect to my teaching is based around the pupil and their individual tastes and ways of learning. Some of us are good with numbers, while some of us are good with words... others learn by doing, and others learn by ear or are more visual in their intake. It really doesn't matter. Learning should be interesting and fun and moulded to the individual and it is in that task that I derive most of my pleasure! I guarantee I can find the best way to allow you to come away with the knowledge and confidence you need to truly express yourself beyond your expectations

I am a professional drummer with a degree in Music and Health Studies. Music and its power is my life and my absolute fascination. The affect a simple drum circle can have on people's lives is what compels me. On an individual level, the personal tools that a drum kit and the ability to express oneself from behind it is what compels me.
I pride myself in building a strong rapport with my students and realising very quickly how best they learn and what their real passions are. These are the keys to effective learning that is fun and relevant and engaging and thoroughly rewarding.
I adapt my lessons to suit each individual depending on their personality, preferred genres, age, requests. I'm always open to discussion and want my students to feel comfortable and an equal part of a journey towards taking ownership of a wonderful instrument.
