About Sennen

Songwriting, Music Production & Contemporary Music Tutor

I'm a professional songwriter, performer and music producer based in Brighton, with over 15 years' experience as a working musician and over 10 years' experience teaching songwriting and music. I have an MA in Songwriting with Distinction from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) London, and have also studied music production at Point Blank London.

I teach songwriting and music production on both a 1-to-1 and workshop basis, working with beginners through to more experienced musicians. My teaching is practical, supportive and tailored to each student's goals — whether you're writing your first song, developing an EP or album, preparing for a performance or audition, or looking to develop your production skills.

Alongside teaching, I work professionally as an independent singer-songwriter and producer. I've performed at festivals including Green Man, Shambala and Boardmasters, as well as venues and events across the UK. My own music has received BBC Introducing airplay, with BBC Introducing describing it as "Gorgeously Atmospheric". I'm currently releasing my debut album, produced by Chris Hyson (Jordan Rakei, The Magic Lantern) and mixed by Daniel J Goodwin (This Is the Kit, Bonnie Light Horseman).

Music Production
I teach music production using Logic Pro and Ableton, including:
• Recording and arranging
• Composition and creative production
• Sound selection and sound design
• Electronic music production
• Mixing and mastering
• Developing a workflow in your DAW
• Turning songwriting ideas into finished productions

I have experience working across a range of styles, including folk, acoustic pop, Americana, alt-pop and electronic music such as dance, house, electro and techno.

Guitar, Piano & Singing
I can also teach the technical and theoretical foundations of guitar, piano and singing, particularly where these skills relate to songwriting and contemporary music.

About the lessons

Would you like to learn new songwriting or production techniques and develop your creative practice?

Lessons are centred around your goals, interests and existing music. We can work on songs you're already writing, start something completely new, or develop a longer-term project such as an EP or album.
I combine practical exercises and songwriting briefs with discussion, theory and constructive feedback. Depending on your needs, we might work on lyrics, melody, harmony, arrangement, production or the overall direction of a song.

I particularly enjoy helping students develop their own creative voice, rather than trying to make them sound like somebody else.
For students working towards a specific goal, I can also provide more structured programmes. I've run bespoke six-week songwriting courses tailored to individual and group learning outcomes, as well as workshops in Brighton, Lewes and at UK music festivals.

I've helped students:
• Develop and complete songs for EPs and albums
• Prepare material for live performances and open mics
• Develop audition material for successful college applications
• Build live sets
• Work through creative blocks and develop their songwriting practice
• Explore songwriting collaboratively in small groups

My aim is to provide a supportive, encouraging environment where you can experiment with your music, receive honest and constructive feedback, and develop the skills and confidence to take your ideas further.

I also offer a free 30-minute introductory meeting so we can discuss what you're looking to achieve and whether the lessons would be a good fit.
