About Ollie
My real itch for teaching comes from my personal experiences during my Art GCSE and A-levels. I found the way in which the curriculum was set to be really oppressive to being truly creative and the reason why so many kids struggled with making work and eventually stopped being creative at all.
I was super lucky during my A-levels to have a tutor myself, who was a university tutor at Oxford Brookes, who taught me in a similar way in which I hope to teach you! Her tutoring allowed me to reach an A* without falling out of love with art in the process and was inspiring enough to carry me through to university at Goldsmiths.
Going through university I have been able to reflect on what it is that made that period of art education so oppressive and now I have the tools to change that whilst still allowing for students to reach the highest grades.
My current art practice involves teaching: I set up workshops and display information in creative ways to maximise learning. I want to continue this on a more helpful, 1-1 level.

My sessions open with an introduction on creativity: what it means to be creative and how to maximise your individual creative potential within an art making context.
Also in our opening sessions we will get to know each other. I believe this is important as it will allow me to guide you, rather than teach you. I believe in my students having as much autonomy as possible- this is crucial for Learning.
My sessions are more than just obliging by the students' schooling curriculum, I open up a space for expanded creative learning- drawing from many different learning fields, where we can then return to the school curriculum with a broader sense of what the curriculum is, and isn't. Rather than having a narrow view on what it is asking for.
I believe that the schooling curriculum from, GCSE to A-level, is creatively oppressive, but it doesn't have to be. My job is to open up and deconstruct the curriculum with the students, to allow them to be as creative as possible, in order to produce the highest quality work... whilst enjoying it!
Each session is 1 hour.
English speakers only.
