About Joanne

I am a qualified experienced Maths FE lecturer with excellent success rate among my students. I love to take students from grade D to grade B in 1 year. I graduated from the University of London with a BSc. Mathematical Studies and have been happily teaching at an FE college for over 25 years. Recently I have been achieving the same success rate with my online students. My expertise is in GCSE Intermediate Maths and exam preparation. We would begin with a consultation (during our free lesson) to find out what you require and how I can best help and support you. Self belief and practise are the keys to success in Maths. Experience has taught me that with the right level of support and coaching every student can achieve their target goals in Mathematics.

About the lesson

My aim in teaching is to always build confidence in you my students first and foremost, which means my lessons are learning led. We begin with your current level of understanding and build your content knowledge one topic at a time, while preparing you for your future exams. Each week we will look at exam style questions, ranging in difficulty as we complete each topic. You will quickly become familiar with the style of questioning used in exams, helping to alleviate fear and dread and birth the confidence you need to tackle any problem. My expertise is in tutoring year 10-12 and resit grade D students as they embark on achieving their grade B in GCSE Maths. I have been tutoring online for 2 years, delivering a 1 year revision programme for all GCSE resit students at an FE college, but my teaching experience spans more than 23 years. My online tutoring sessions last 55 minutes, finishing up with a 5 minute recap and feedback. I begin with a revision quiz each week, keeping your newly gained knowledge fresh and at your fingertips. You the learner will determine the pace of the lesson and no question is a ‘silly’ one. Mistakes are vitally important and so there is no pressure to always be right in my class, nothing is more important than practising the questions yourself and learning from your mistakes. Repetition is also important until confidence is established. I am a qualified teacher with a BSc in Mathematical Studies from the University of London. I gained a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) at Swansea University. I take pride in the success of my students and am a kind, caring tutor aware of the individual needs of each learner.
