About Shirou

Hello!

My name is Shirou, and I am a UK-qualified Medical Doctor with over 10 years of tutoring experience and a PGCert in Education with Distinction. Alongside my clinical career, teaching has always been something I have been deeply passionate about. Having found my own early years at school challenging and, at times, feeling that my education was not tailored to the way I learned, I developed a strong understanding of how differently every student learns.

During my own time at school, I was told on several occasions that I would never make it to medical school. Rather than allowing those opinions to define my future, I worked hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor. That journey gave me a deep appreciation of how important it is for a student to have someone who believes in them, particularly when they may not yet fully believe in themselves.

Over the years, I have learned to recognise and build upon each student's individual strengths, learning style and potential, rather than expecting every student to learn in exactly the same way. My aim is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them genuinely understand how they learn best, develop confidence in their abilities and become more independent and motivated learners.

As both a doctor and an educator, I bring strong academic knowledge, extensive teaching experience and an understanding of the pressures students can face. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed when they are given the right support, teaching approach and encouragement, and I would love to help you achieve your goals.

About the lesson

With over 10 years of tutoring experience, a PGCert in Medical Education with Distinction, and experience as a UK-qualified Medical Doctor, I teach students across a range of ages and abilities. This includes younger students in primary school looking to build confidence and strengthen their academic foundations, as well as older students preparing for important examinations and competitive university applications. Please see below for a list of the subjects and school stages I teach.
I specialise in the British Curriculum, but I am also familiar with the IB Curriculum. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves, while developing the knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their full potential.

My approach to teaching is personalised, supportive and focused on helping students genuinely understand a subject rather than simply memorising content. I typically begin by developing a strong understanding of the core concepts through clear, structured and step-by-step explanations. We then apply this knowledge to a variety of questions and scenarios, before consolidating learning through exam-style questions that gradually increase in difficulty. This approach helps students build not only their knowledge, but also their confidence and ability to apply what they have learned independently.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I adapt my teaching style to their strengths, areas for development and preferred way of learning, ensuring that lessons are both effective and engaging. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's age and individual needs.

Perfect! An outstanding teacher who demonstrates great patience, professionalism, and dedication to helping students succeed. The lessons are well-structured, engaging, and tailored to the student’s individual needs, making both Maths and English easier to understand and enjoy.

What truly sets her apart is her ability to explain difficult concepts clearly, build students’ confidence, and encourage them to reach their full potential. She creates a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

I would highly recommend her to any parent looking for an excellent Maths and English teacher who genuinely cares about her students’ progress and academic success.

Thank you for your hard work, commitment, and support. Wishing you continued success in helping students achieve their goals

Shirou has been teaching my daughter Maths and Science for almost two years, and we are delighted with the progress she has made. She has really taken the time to understand how she learns best and identified the areas where she needed extra support.

Her lessons are engaging, encouraging and well suited to her needs. She explains things clearly and is patient when she finds a topic difficult. Over time, my daughter has become a far more confident and independent learner who now looks forward to her lessons with Shirou.

Shirou tutored my daughter in International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics for two years, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is an exceptional teacher — knowledgeable, patient, reliable and genuinely invested in her students’ success.
Physics is a demanding subject, particularly at IB level, and Shirou has a real ability to explain difficult concepts clearly and make them understandable. Over the two years, she not only helped my daughter strengthen her knowledge and prepare for her exams, but also gave her confidence in the subject.
Shirou is also a wonderful person to work with: warm, encouraging, professional and extremely dependable. We feel very fortunate to have found her and I would recommend her without hesitation to any student or parent looking for an outstanding tutor.
