About Bryan

Hi, I am Bryan, a recent graduate with a degree in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Washington University and a passion for helping students learn and implement effectively. I graduated with college honors distinction despite being a first-generation low-income student. Several cultivated habits have allowed me to achieve high marks on exams. Along the way, I have been reminded of the process that I and many students have to go through to understand and apply information. I have confidence in helping students grasp concepts in chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra, and physics. With moments of helping students with course material throughout college, I have been able to understand unique challenges students may face in academia. These experiences honed my communication and teaching abilities. I recognize tutoring as one powerful way to use my knowledge and resources to add value to so many people. I never want to forget where I come from, and I strive to be able to positively impact people who may face the same challenges I have along my pursuit of higher education. I marvel at the potential to be a part of something larger than myself as a tutor.

Teaching Method and Techniques:
As a tutor, my approach is highly personalized. With such an approach, I aim to make learning engaging and effective, whether you're catching up or aiming to excel. As a solo tutor, I ensure each session is tailored to your needs, fostering both understanding and confidence in your studies. Every student has unique strengths and areas for improvement, and I want to focus on building foundational knowledge while guiding students through problem-solving strategies. I encourage active participation and use of real-world examples to make abstract concepts more relatable. I also love to find ways I can incorporate Bloom's taxonomy into learning, as this framework can help students grasp the "why" behind each topic.

Typical Lesson Plan:
Although I have not yet developed a strict lesson plan, I aim to adapt to fit the demands of every session for the students. We might begin by going over homework or classroom resources, then focus on particular topics or difficult regions. From there, I use guided questions to reinforce important ideas and assist students navigate practice problems. Based on their comfort level and development, this paces the course.

What Sets Me Apart:
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students by breaking down complex topics into 1) digestible bits and 2) information that the student already knows. This approach facilitates a growth mindset for the student, even if the subject seems overwhelming. Since I've recently completed my own studies with strong academic performance, I understand the latest curricula and the challenges students face. My goal is to help students see how capable they are at learning anything.

Who the Lessons Are For:
I offer tutoring for high school and undergraduate students who need support in chemistry, math, or science. Whether you're struggling with the material, aiming to improve your grades, or just looking to stay on track, I'm here to help.
