About Glen

Teaching has always been about more than passing on technical skills. I became a teacher because I believe exceptional music education has the power to transform lives and strengthen Scotland's musical future. I want to help raise the standard of music-making by giving every student the knowledge, confidence, and technical foundation to reach their potential. As a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and an active performer across the UK and internationally, I bring real-world experience into every lesson. My aim is to inspire the next generation of musicians, ensuring they receive the high-quality guidance, encouragement, and opportunities needed to thrive in today's musical world.

About the lesson

Every student is different, so no two lessons are the same. My teaching is tailored to your goals, whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time, preparing for graded examinations, auditions, orchestra placements, or simply wanting to play with greater confidence and enjoyment. A typical lesson begins with technical work designed to develop healthy posture, freedom of movement, intonation, tone production, rhythm, and musical awareness.

We then apply these skills directly to your repertoire, ensuring that technique always serves musical expression rather than existing in isolation. I also teach effective practice strategies, helping students make consistent progress between lessons instead of relying on hours of repetitive practice. One of the defining features of my teaching is my focus on healthy, sustainable technique. Following my own experience recovering from a playing-related injury, I developed a deep understanding of efficient movement, working alongside physiotherapists and practitioners of the Alexander Technique.

This enables me to help students play with greater ease, avoid unnecessary tension, and build a technique that will support them throughout their musical lives. As an active professional performer, I bring real-world experience into every lesson. Beyond learning the notes, we explore interpretation, performance confidence, stage presence, and the artistry that makes music meaningful. My goal is not simply to teach you how to play an instrument, but to help you become an independent, confident, and expressive musician who enjoys making music for years to come.
