About Ethan
I am currently a full-time undergraduate studying BSc Economics at SOAS, having previously studied Maths, Economics, and Business Studies at A-Level, so I have a strong understanding of the GCSE Economics syllabus and the foundations students need to learn. I want to tutor because I enjoy breaking down ideas into something clear and manageable, and I find it extremely rewarding to see a student go from confusion to confidence on any topic. Having gone through GCSE and A-Level Economics myself relatively recently, I understand the challenges students face and the mistakes that are easy to make, which helps me explain things in a way that actually makes sense to them rather than just reading off of a textbook. Beyond academics, I also value the responsibility and consistency that comes with tutoring — through my volunteering at ECF London since 2022 and my work experience, I've developed strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of helping people improve, which is ultimately why I want to teach.

My approach to tutoring GCSE and A level Economics is around making concepts feel concrete and solid. Since Economics can seem quite theoretical at GCSE and A level if it isn't linked to real-world examples. I use a mix of techniques depending on the topic and what the student's learning style is like — explaining core concepts clearly first, then working through exam-style questions together, using past papers to build exam technique in order to prepare them for the real thing. I check understanding of students through questioning and breaking down certain topics rather than just moving through content, so students genuinely grasp the ideas of certain concepts. My typical lessons run for 1.5 hours, which gives enough time to cover a topic in depth, work through practice questions, and address any gaps without rushing. I bring both tutoring experience and a strong academic grounding in Economics, having studied it through GCSE and A-Level myself and now studying for a BSc in Economics at SOAS, so I understand exactly what examiners are looking for and where students commonly struggle. My lessons are usually aimed at GCSE students but I can teach A level as well.
