About Preston
I am near to graduating from Appalachian State University and have completed all required courses and more in the subject areas I teach. I place a heavy emphasis in my personal life on kindness, compassion, and a holistic approach to relationships. This extends to students as well. I have learned over my years studying this subject that there is always some confounding variable. Whatever that may be, it is always my objective to isolate and solve whatever issue or issues might be causing a student's problems. The beauty of this subject is that application is limitless, successful philosophy students do not only find themselves succeeding in classes on the subject but also interpersonally, as they will find that the lessons learned through this study are not simply academic in nature. This also means that I am willing to provide sessions for individuals who are of high school level or below in the field who simply wish to learn, and have no vested academic interests tied to the subject of philosophy.

My teaching style combines assistance with assigned work and additional relevant information provided via 1 on 1 discussion. Information will flow naturally and be tailored to the student's needs. For example, if a student is taking an introductory philosophy course in high school and is struggling with the symbolic logic component of the class, the lessons would first determine this fact and then determine specific areas of struggle like diagramming or proofs. Our objective is to find the most efficient way for students to succeed. If a broad issue with the student's learning can be narrowed down into a fundamental misunderstanding of course material, this will be the focus of study, rather than focusing on each affected area independently. This constitutes a holistic approach which I believe to be central to a personal learning environment, especially in a high school or middle school setting, which is my focus.
