About Yongsoo

I am an experienced educator and tutor offering individualized preparation for the SHSAT and digital SAT. I teach both Math and ELA and am thoroughly familiar with the current formats, content, and challenges of both exams.

My approach begins with understanding each student's particular strengths and weaknesses. Some students need to strengthen fundamental math skills; others struggle with reading comprehension, grammar, pacing, or test-taking strategy. I tailor instruction to the individual student rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all program. I have a strong background in education, writing, and the humanities.

I graduated from Swarthmore College with a degree in English and have worked in education and as a writing tutor. I have also taught at the college level as an adjunct instructor at the School of Visual Arts.

In addition to my professional teaching experience, I have remained deeply engaged with standardized-test preparation and personally guided both of my children through SHSAT preparation. I am well versed in the current SHSAT and digital SAT and can comfortably teach the latest material in both Math and ELA.

I believe effective tutoring requires more than simply knowing the answers. My goal is to help students understand why a solution works, identify recurring weaknesses, and develop the confidence and habits necessary to work independently.

Whether a student needs comprehensive preparation or focused help with specific areas, I aim to provide patient, clear, individualized instruction and help each student make meaningful progress.

About the lesson

I specialize in helping middle school students ace the SHSAT and win admission to NYC’s top specialized high schools. I coach students in both ELA and math and customize test-taking strategies to maximize their SHSAT score. Contact me if your child is preparing to take the SHSAT.
