About Matthew

With experience working with students of different ages, backgrounds and cognitive abilities, I have learned strategies, planned and delivered lessons and compiled a bevy of resources with support from seasoned teachers with different skills, perspectives and expertise. I have experience working with students in a whole class, in small groups as well as one-on-one and also differentiating instruction to meet individual needs, whether it be supporting those who struggle with skills, engaging students who struggle with motivation or pushing those who demonstrate grade level proficiencies and instead need to be further challenged. I graduated from SUNY Geneseo with an undergraduate dual degree in English Literature Studies and Psychology. I later earned my master’s degree from Touro in ‘Special and General Education Teaching Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6. In addition to teaching in ICT classrooms across kindergarten, first and third grade during the school years, summers and even in Saturday programs, I have also taught science for two years working with students across K-4 during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, I also compete in amateur Muay Thai competitions and additionally offer martial arts lessons for students to promote brain-body connection and fitness as well as to build confidence. I have experience teaching martial arts for after school and summer programs across grades K-4.

About the lesson

My lessons are engaging, interactive and also equally fun and challenging. Using evidence based practices, my lessons offer students opportunities to not only participate in, but actively drive and steer, their learning.

Students will learn skills that they will apply to tasks that allow them to monitor their own progress and not only overcome challenges, but embrace the rewarding feeling of learning from failure. I show students that getting things wrong is crucial to growing and becoming better. Through this learning process, students gain confidence as they learn skills and actively see their improvement as we celebrate every small win every step of the way.

My lessons aim to unlock the intrinsic joy of learning through gamifying instruction and playing on children’s innate curiosity about the world as well as their competitive spirit and drive to grow and learn.
