About Edward

I'm a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and a UCL law graduate. I trained at a leading international law firm in the City, working on corporate finance, leveraged finance and structured capital markets transactions, as well as disputes.

What sets my lessons apart is the practical perspective. Textbooks explain the rules, but they rarely show how those rules play out in real life: how a transaction is structured and negotiated, why a clause is drafted the way it is, what due diligence actually involves, or how a dispute unfolds from first letter to resolution. Having worked on live matters, I can bridge the gap between the law you study and the law as it's practised.

This matters for exams too. The SQE in particular tests your ability to apply the law to realistic client scenarios, and understanding how things work in practice makes those questions much easier to answer. It's equally valuable if you're preparing for vacation schemes, training contract interviews or your first steps in practice, where firms expect you to think commercially.

I enjoy breaking complex topics into clear, manageable steps and helping students build both their understanding and their confidence. I'll tailor our sessions to your goals and the way you learn best.

Outside law, I enjoy writing, reading, running, going to the gym and playing rugby.

About the lesson

My approach

I believe the best way to learn law is to understand why the rules exist and how they work in practice, not just memorise them. Each lesson starts with a quick check of what you already know, then we work through the key principles using clear explanations, diagrams, and real-world examples from corporate and financial transactions. We finish with practice questions so you can apply what you've learnt straight away, and I'll give you detailed feedback on your answers. For SQE students, I focus heavily on single-best-answer technique and timing; for LLB and LPC students, on problem questions, essay structure and exam technique. Between lessons, I can set targeted practice tasks to consolidate your progress.

Lesson length

Lessons are usually 60 minutes. For SQE revision or longer practice sessions, 90-minute lessons are also available.

Qualifications and experience

I'm a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and a UCL law graduate. I completed my training contract at a leading international law firm in the City, with seats in corporate finance, leveraged finance, structured capital markets and dispute resolution. I have experience of mentoring trainees, students and junior colleagues. Having undertaken the qualification process myself, I understand the challenges students face and how to prepare effectively.

Lessons are for adult learners, including LLB students, LPC students, SQE candidates, and anyone preparing for vacation scheme or training contract applications at City firms. Lessons are available online.
