About Amber

Hi, I'm Amber a current Textile Design BA student at UAL. :)
I would describe myself as tenacious, spontaneous and curious. During my school days, I was always seeking out extra-curricular work and opportunities to push myself, get involved with the school community, and really immerse myself in all areas and contexts of art and design. I hope our lessons together inspire the same enthusiasm and love for the subject!

I have experience working with a range of skill levels and ages including: babysitting and drawing with toddlers, volunteering to mentor KS1 primary school children; helping out at the afterschool childcare club; running clubs, workshops, and support sessions for secondary school students as the sixth form art scholar; and becoming a trusted bounce board for feedback, encouragement and ideas amongst my peers throughout my education.

My work is often visually playful, intricate, and disarming while discussing important social themes and current topics. Studying fashion & textiles at CSM Foundation has really strengthened my understanding of what makes a powerful, coherent, robust, and thorough body of work and how its presentation can amplify or hinder that, training my eye to be insightful, critical, and aware of bias.

Awarded the only art scholarship in my year group at school.
Accepted by Chelsea College of Art: Textile Design BA, Glasgow School of Art & Design: Fashion Design BA; and all foundation courses I applied to including CSM Art & Design Foundation and Kingston Foundation in Art, Design & Media

About the lesson

Fun, productive and stimulating lessons with intuitive making, critical thinking, and constructive reflection. Tutoring designed around you and your style, learning needs and aims!

Through years of independent, extra-curricular engagements and excelling under a multitude of mark-schemes and specialist mentors, I've accumulated experience and knowledge that will help you with:

- technical skill development over a range of purposes, media and disciplines,

- creative experimentation to push and develop your own practice and methods of making,

- sketchbooks/projects/portfolios - (this could look like project planning and direction, sketchbook/portfolio reviews and help sessions, continuous feedback on a particular piece, setting tasks to incorporate a particular learning objective, skill, or process stage required to be demonstrated for assessment)

- writing for research, documentation, evaluation, artist statements, personal statements, project proposals;

- finding effective resources to broaden your interests and understanding;

- finding amazing opportunities to showcase your pro-active work ethic, (such as where to apply for free workshops in a specialists craft, which courses I found most valuable, where to look for experience)

Flexible lesson length and teaching/learning approach depending on age (taking any age up to applying for higher education), goals/timeframe, and what works for the student as a creative and as an individual.

Within the first session i had with her multiple times was she able to see where and when a potential issue was to arise within my techniques and habits and was fully capable of showing me step by step how we could build the skills for me to overcome them. With empathy of course i felt like she was just a compasionate friend guiding me.
