About Sophia

I am a 12th grader at Phillips Academy Andover, an international boarding school just 30 minutes outside of Boston. While I spend most of my time studying on the East Coast, I am a San Franciscan native. Before Andover, I attended K-8 at the Hamlin School, an all-girls institution centered at the heart of the Bay Area. About the lesson

Hello! My name is Sophia Tabibian, and I am a 12th grader at Phillips Academy Andover. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and mastery in my four areas of expertise: math, Spanish, reading, and writing. Across all subjects, I create individualized learning plans based on each student’s goals, strengths, and challenges so they can make meaningful and measurable progress. Math: I earned a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam in 10th grade, completed rigorous multivariable calculus and linear algebra courses in 11th grade, and am currently enrolled in AP Statistics. My math lessons begin with a brief diagnostic so I can identify where a student is thriving and where they may need extra support. From there, I design a customized curriculum with a focus on targeted practice and problem-solving strategies that will allow students to succeed independently. Spanish: I am a native Spanish speaker who has completed all advanced Spanish coursework at my school (including an Independent Study I initiated this year). I assess each student through an oral and written diagnostic to understand their comfort level with grammar, vocabulary, and communication. I then create a personalized plan focused on fluency, accuracy, and real-world application. Reading & Writing: I have authored several research papers through Harvard Business School’s Baker Library and the Phillips Academy Scholars Program, giving me extensive experience with academic reading and writing. For reading and writing students, I focus on building strong analytical skills, structured argumentation, and polished expression. After a short diagnostic, I create a tailored approach that supports growth in comprehension, essay writing, and overall literacy. Throughout all my tutoring, I aim to create a supportive, structured, and motivating learning environment. My goal is to help students not only improve their skills, but also develop confidence and a genuine interest in the subjects they are studying.
