About Tammy
I have a degree in mathematics secondary education. I have taught Junior High, High School, and College. I am currently the Finance Manager at a library and also the one and only Homeschool Librarian at that library as well. I am currently tutoring Pre-Algebra. I have 6 kids who I've homeschooled and have taught groups of homeschoolers in a homeschool co-op.

Be nutty. Math is fun and applicable. Try to bring in as many true stories and situations where math has been used. When you teach percents, show them a paystub and ask "What percent are the Feds taking?"
Don't be afraid to sing, use lots of props, tell crazy stories, and utilize the element of SURPRISE. I teach as though it is the most exciting subject ever! I love to use lots of visuals to get a point across. For example, if you teach combining like terms, do it using apples and oranges. I use skiing to teach about slopes of lines. I sing a song for the Quadratic Formula. I tell my students, "Simplifyyyyy before you Multiplyyyyy" when it comes to fractions. If you say, "Simplifyyyyy before you adddddd." It just doesn't sound right. No rhyme! I use money when I teach inequalities. And I make my dog roll over to remind students to FLIP the inequality when you multiply or divide by a negative number. I think you get the idea of what I am like.
