About Isobel

I’m an English teacher working at a top UK selective grammar school, where I help students achieve top marks in their GCSE and A-Level English exams.

I currently teach and examine AQA GCSE English Language, and I teach Eduqas GCSE English Literature (with previous experience teaching AQA Literature). I also teach AQA A-Level English Language & Literature (combined), giving me broad expertise across key exam boards.

I hold a 2.1 degree in English Language &Linguistics from the University of Leeds, a PGCE from the University of Chester, and I am completing the NPQ in Leading Literacy with UCL.

As an English Language specialist and AQA exam marker, my expertise lies in getting students truly exam ready, helping them understand exactly how to apply their knowledge, structure their ideas, and write high-quality exam responses under pressure. I specialise in supporting high-ability students aiming for top grades, but my training in literacy and scaffolding also enables me to support developing learners in building confidence and closing gaps.

In addition to 1:1 tutoring, I offer:
Marking and reviewing past papers, with targeted feedback
Diagnostic assessments to identify strengths and gaps
Structured exam-technique coaching tailored to AQA and Eduqas
Guided reading and analysis of set texts, wider reading, or contemporary literature
Skills-focused sessions on vocabulary, analytical writing, and comprehension
Support for younger grammar school students looking to deepen reading and literacy skills

My goal is always the same: to help students feel confident, prepared, and capable of achieving their very best.

About the lesson

I offer a range of lesson packages tailored to your needs:

1-hour weekly lessons
2-hour English Language full exam paper walkthroughs
Mock paper marking with a 1-hour feedback session
Half-term or holiday intensive courses

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are completely tailored to the student’s needs. I will always liaise with the student and, where possible, their teachers to identify priority areas and plan a clear sequence of lessons.

On occasions where a student has an upcoming exam or a very specific focus, I require 48 working hours’ notice to prepare appropriately.

Homework or extension reading is set where helpful to ensure steady progress between sessions and to help students make the most of their time with me.
