About Tanatswa
I am currently a student in college studying in the United States. I am studying International Relations with a minors in French and Theatre.
Prior to this, I took a gap year working as a Teaching Assistant in the Humanities of a community school. I taught grammar and provided creative, academic, and personal writing support. In this time, I also worked as a freelance writer.
Before this, I was studying Cambridge A Level English in which I obtained the highest grade for it in my country. I also studied Literature, History, and French and obtained an As. I have an 8.5 IELTS Score and a 155 Duolingo Score and, thus, have adequately mastered the English language.
I have supported multilple students in their creative and academic writing, and especially in their writing for college applications. I also engage in writing personally with articles for my college's newspaper - The Cornellian and poetry.

I love helping students finishing high school figure out how best to communicate their creative, academic, or personal (in the case of application statements) ideas. Finding the right tone, style, and diction is what I am passionate about. This is second to my desire to help students feel confident about their writing, and that the general task of writing is less daunting and more approachable.
The first step is to have a student tell me or write down their idea in one sentence. Forcing one's goal into a single expression clarifies it, and this clarifies what the style and tone of writing should achieve.
This is the second step - determining what writing tools will best achieve the piece's purpose.
The third and final step is editing. With a clear understanding of the purpose, editing becomes easy and driven. Both myself and the student can analyse the words and paragraphs with scrutinity; determinig what gets to stay, what needs to go, and how to make the best use of a word count.
A typically lesson might be a conversational walk through of comments given on an essay with particular attention to what the student's intentions were on any given section of writing, and how that purpose can be better communicated. I believe in a student-driven process - it's your writing, and it should feel like yours. I only hope to help you find your voice as a writer, learn how to use it, and be confident in it.
