About Brandon
I am a PhD student specializing in Astrophysics and Cosmology. I have 5 years of tutoring experience at universities, 1 year of teaching assistant experience at university, and 8 years of private tutoring experience for high school and undergraduate students. Since 2009 I was a team leader for an outreach program, from the Department of Education of the Free State, to motivate, inspire and engage school learners, to follow a science career. As team leader, I demonstrated and assisted school groups to build miniature space rockets (or other experiments), which we then launched into the sky, after completion of the rocket. As can be seen, I am very passionate and motivated when it comes to both teaching and learning.

My teaching methodology is (ranked from most to least important):
1. Approach the students as an empathetic, caring, understanding, respectful, motivated, inspired, hardworking and passionate teacher. From all my years of tutoring experience I have learned that students mimic your approach to their education. If you are willing to work hard in the students then the students will work hard for themselves and will become just as passionate, motivated and respectful as the teacher. I firmly believe in the quote of John Wooden of “The most powerful leadership tool you have is your own personal example”, and have realized how this can inspire and bring out the best in students.
2. My goal is not to test if my student is an Albert Einstein, but rather to turn my student into an Albert Einstein. In other words: no matter how incompetent or ignorant the student is, I will work harder and not give up until they understand the work just as well as I understand the work. For every successful student there exists and equal amount of work, passion and responsibility from both the student and teacher. This methodology is inspired by the two famous quotes of Albert Einstein of "Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty", and of Sir Isaac Newton of ‘If I have seen a little further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
3. I firmly believe in the statement of “Practice makes perfect” from Benjamin Franklin. I constantly motivate and push my students to practice, practice and practice. Just like you need allot of time and practice to become successful in sports, your career or any other talents, the same holds true in academia.
4. You need to understand your theory and foundation principles so well, that you should be able to explain it to a 10-year-old child (or younger). This methodology is inspired by the two most famous physicist of all time, namely: Richard Feynman who said "If you want to master something, teach it" (Richard Feynman); and Albert Einstein who said "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough".
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I first met Brandon as a fellow student at University back in 2017, and throughout the years we've progressed together from students to colleagues. I am proud to have worked with Brandon as both Laboratory and Research Assistants at the Physics Department, where he constantly proved his professionalism and reliability as we tackled responsibilities ranging from tutoring, facilitation, project management and more. As a scientist, he is driven by his great passion for finding and solving problems. He is a visionary with big ambitions to shape the future, tutoring is one of his ways to achieving these goals.

Details
The student will pay monthly and will not be tutored if the monthly costs is not paid beforehand. For one-on-one tutoring I will charge R150-200 per hour. For two students I will charge R100-150 per hour per person, and for more than two students I will charge R100 per hour per person. Due to the coronavirus pandemic I prefer online classes via zoom if possible. Otherwise, I would not mind to visit the student at their house for a tutoring session. If the student stays further than 5 km from Ferndale, I would charge R50 extra for petrol.
