About Monique

I previously finished honors research in breast cancer research and before that my degree in pathology and laboratory medicine with science communication which covers biology, human biology, chemistry, mathematics and how to write/present science topics. I also studied a few units in French, Psychology and Philosophy. In high school I studied Mathematics (3AB/applications), Chemistry, English, Food Science and Technology, Drama and have a Cert II in Hospitality. I also studied Human Biology in year 11. For the previous four years I was a nanny for primary school children, helping them with school work and projects. I have recently completed two Science Communication internships at the Perron Institute and the Marshall Centre as well as undertaking a research assistant role for the Hartmann Human Lactation Group. Through these work experiences I have gained excellent written skills - including the ability to write essays, research summaries, newsletter articles, media releases and social media posts. Furthermore, I was a Sciguide and Girls in STEM Helper at Scitech in which I helped children and staff with the activities at Scitech and demonstrated the use of STEM concepts.

About the lesson

**Offering in person sessions :) ** Hello! I'm Monique and I've been tutoring for 9 years in primary, high school and tertiary subjects including math, English, science (including human bio, chem and physics), humanities and help with tertiary nursing/education degree entrance tests/exams. I have tutored over forty students over the past 8 years ranging from year one to University students. I received a 90+ ATAR in 2014. I have a Masters of Science Communication from UWA and have been a tutor at UWA and received a Jin-Boon Lew award for teaching in 2022 and was nominated for a 2019 Faculty Teaching & Service Award in the category of Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. I have tutored five units at UWA focusing on presentation skills, science communication, business communications and women's health. I am now tutoring business communications units at UWA and undertaking my PhD in 2024. During the sessions I take an individualized approach by covering school curriculum textbooks as well as other work which complements what is being taught in their classes. I liaise with their teachers, provide personalized schedules and worksheets. I tailor my tutoring to the student's needs and take a flexible approach to self-paced, individual learning. I focus on giving positive awareness of their strengths and targeting their areas for improvement. For me tutoring isn't just about achieving great marks, it's also about helping students feel confident in their own abilities as well as encouraging them to enjoy learning. At the moment I’m relatively flexible with my schedule! $80 per hour or $60 per 45 minutes, year 6 and below is $65 per hour and $50 for 45 minutes. I avoid tutoring on weekends but if you’d like a weekend session it is at the weekend rate of $100 per hour or $75 for 45 minutes
