About Kiera
My name is Kiera, and I am a third-year student at the University of British Columbia, majoring in English Literature and minoring in Creative Writing. After graduation, I plan to apply to UBC’s intensive Bachelor of Education program. I am extremely passionate about working with kids!
Although I have limited English tutoring experience, I have many years of experience teaching children of all age groups through hip hop dance classes. My responsibilities as a dance teacher included preparing lesson plans, communicating with staff, students and parents, having patience and empathy, and adapting my teaching style to meet students’ individual skills and learning needs.
I am excited to apply these skills in our tutoring sessions and get started helping students with reading comprehension and writing!

My teaching approach is centred around creating a safe and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. By adapting my teaching style to meet students’ individual skills and learning needs, I believe every student learns differently. I begin and end each session with brief check ins on how students feel about the material. After getting to know the student and their goals, I use activities, worksheets, learning games and exercises to strengthen their understanding. The lessons are curated for elementary school students.
