About Elle

I have tutored previously for the past two years, helping students work towards their 11+, 13+ and GCSE exams. I have experience tutoring Maths (GCSE/A-level), English (GCSE/A-Level), Biology (GCSE/ A-Level) and Psychology (A-level only). I have helped many students by giving them broad overviews of topics they struggle with, as well as going over specific details, i.e. the structure of a gene. I believe in employing active recall as a starter activity, to get the student to think over content they will cover in that session; this will often be followed by exercises which target their weaknesses. Each session may be followed by some homework, which I am able to mark before their next session. I will also advise the student on specific exam techniques in our sessions, to enable successful exam performance. I whole-heartedly believe adjusting my tutoring style to each student, whether it be through oral activities, worksheets or interactive games.

About the lesson

Hi! My name is Elle, and I am an undergraduate biology student with a passion for teaching others about maths/science. Having past tutoring experience with children from age 11-16, I have become comfortable communicating with audiences of varied abilities.

I achieved 9 grade 9s at GCSE, including maths, all three sciences and English Language and Literature. I was further awarded the School Psychology Prize for achievement at my last school, King's College School in Wimbledon.

I believe each lesson should have a defined structure, however I am always happy to adapt the lesson to the student's needs. During the A-level revision period, I found it extremely helpful to have a set routine of work, helping me work towards my goal of achieving top grades in my A-levels; this included writing a timetable of all the topics to cover in a day, and making sure I revisited questions within specific topics that were incorrect. The priority in my lessons will always be the student's area of weakness; if there are concepts the student finds hard to understand on their own, we will go over it together until the student feels confident they have grasped the material.
