About Kelsey
With my degree in Journalism from the University of Southern California, I have worked for NPR, Page Six, GEN-ZiNE and multiple highly regarded university news outlets. During my two years as a managing editor of USC's world-renowned student-led newsroom, Annenberg Media, I assigned, proofread and copyedited up to twenty articles a day. I know how to write, and I have a very keen eye for detail.
I was awarded scholarships from USC and outside agencies that allowed me to attend one of the top universities in the nation for free. I know how to 1.) ensure that a student has the best possible admissions profile, 2.) improve their quality of writing, and 3.) increase their literacy and critical thinking skills.
I always put my best effort into working with others - I believe that everyone deserves a high quality education, and work tirelessly to see students succeed. But, as someone who is furthering her education with a Master's degree in Magazine and Digital Storytelling at NYU's journalism school, I still understand the pressures of student life. Furthermore, English language arts and subjects related to it are very difficult; there is always something new to learn, a paragraph to restructure or a mistake to fix. No matter what your level is in regard to reading, media literacy or writing, I will meet you where you are.

My lesson structure largely depends on you or your student's needs:
College admissions assistance: Assistance in preparing materials necessary for college admission with an emphasis on essay and supplemental writing composition. I can accommodate students in various stages of writing: those who have some or all of their essay(s) written and need copyediting/proofreading; who do not have much written, but need further help ideating and structuring (i.e. creating an outline); or who want someone to discuss assigned prompts with.
The goal of these lessons is to provide the student with admission essays that are of the quality top-tier universities necessitate. Students will leave with essays that are rich with story, tight on word use and grammatically perfect. We will paint the picture of an intelligent, creative, well-rounded and detail-oriented individual.
(Note: For a student who needs more than a short proofreading session, it is likely that we will need to meet more than once if their goal is to leave with an essay 100% ready to be submitted with an application. Quality work takes time!)
Level: Anyone who is applying to college.
Language Arts tutoring: I will address specific subjects of concern for the student; critical literacy skills such as reading and evaluating certain texts; grammar and composition help; writing workshops (I will provide prompts for timed exercises specifically targeting student's needs/areas of interest: ex. creative writing, prompts similar to that of the SAT/ACT with a small reading portion to be discussed in the response, etc.).
Students can bring material they have questions about to me and I will help increase their understanding of the subject.
Tutoring will be personalized based on student's needs.
Level: 6-12th grade. Or, undergraduate students.
I am very flexible and can meet any student's goals!

Kelsey has helped me more times than I can count on assignments. She has been a wonderful resource and tutor for writing papers and learning how to properly edit them. She is very patient and understanding when it comes to going over what needs to be fixed and why it should be fixed. Her opinion is extremely valuable, and she is a wonderful tutor.
