About Erin

Hi! I’m Erin, and I’m a passionate teacher who genuinely loves helping people learn, grow and discover what they are capable of. I have over five years of teaching experience, specialising in Visual Art and Design Studies, and I have had the opportunity to teach students from Grade 7 through to Grade 12.

I became interested in teaching because I love seeing that moment when something finally clicks for a student. Whether it is learning a new skill, understanding something that initially seemed difficult, or simply gaining the confidence to try something new, I find it incredibly rewarding to be part of that journey.

I believe that learning should be more than simply memorising information. It should be interesting, interactive and enjoyable. I especially love encouraging students to ask questions, think creatively and feel confident in their own abilities. My goal is to create a friendly and supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, practising and improving at their own pace.

I’m excited to bring that same enthusiasm into teaching English. I want my students to feel that learning English is something they can genuinely enjoy, while also giving them the practical skills and confidence they need to communicate effectively in everyday life.

Most importantly, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived — and hopefully having had a little fun along the way!

I can’t wait to meet you and be part of your learning journey.

My Teaching Methodology and What Makes Me Unique

My teaching methodology is centred around creating a positive, creative and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. With over five years of teaching experience in Visual Art and Design Studies, I have developed a teaching style that combines clear explanations and structured learning with creativity and practical application. I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in the lesson rather than simply memorising information. I therefore aim to make my lessons engaging, interactive and relevant to each learner. What makes me unique as a teacher is my ability to combine practical artistic skills with theoretical knowledge, while adapting my teaching approach to suit different learning styles, abilities and levels of experience. I also enjoy encouraging students to develop their own creative voice and confidence rather than expecting every student to approach art in exactly the same way.

Languages

I am proficient in English and am able to teach my subjects confidently in English. I am comfortable communicating complex concepts in a clear and accessible way and adapting my explanations to suit students who may have different levels of English proficiency.

What Students Can Expect From a Typical Lesson

Students can expect my lessons to be engaging, supportive and well-structured. I generally begin by introducing the topic and explaining the key concepts or skills we will be focusing on, followed by demonstrations, examples or visual references where appropriate. Students then have the opportunity to apply what they have learned through discussion, practical activities, creative exercises or guided practice. In Visual Art, this may include drawing, painting, colour theory, shading, composition, design techniques or developing a creative project. In Design Studies, lessons may involve analysing designers and movements, exploring design principles and elements, developing design concepts, or working through the design process. I make a point of checking students’ understanding throughout the lesson and providing constructive feedback so that they know what they are doing well and where they can improve.

Students My Lessons Are Aimed At

My lessons are suitable for beginner to advanced learners, depending on the student's individual goals and needs. My professional teaching experience has primarily focused on Grades 7–12, teaching both Visual Art and Design Studies. I am comfortable working with students who are completely new to art as well as learners who already have practical experience and want to develop their skills further. I particularly enjoy helping students who may lack confidence in their artistic abilities, as I believe that creativity can be developed through practice, guidance and encouragement. My lessons can therefore be adapted to suit different ages, abilities, learning styles and levels of experience, with the aim of helping every student make meaningful progress while enjoying the process.
